(Brought to you by jat impatientreader.com) Chigurh finds a veterinarian's office and gets supplies to attend to his wounded leg. He then drives into a town called Uvalde, finds a drugstore, and rigs the car outside the office to blow up. When it does, he goes into the pharmacist's section and gets more supplies. After that, he gets a room at the local hotel and tends to his leg some more. He stays in the hotel for five days while his leg is healing. After seeing some police deputies eating in the cafe next to the hotel, he decides to leave.
In the next scene, Wells is taking pictures on the bridge that Moss crossed several days ago to get into Mexico. He looks over the side and tries to figure out what Moss has done with the money.
Meanwhile, Bell is trying to figure out information on the various vehicles that have been involved in the murders. His receptionist tells him that the FBI agent is trying to call him, but he tells her to put him off. He leaves the office and pulls over a flatbed truck carrying the bodies of the men by the trucks. He tells the driver to fix the tarp covering the bodies, and lets the driver go.
The radio transceiver that Chigurh planted on the briefcase comes to life, leading Chigurh to the hotel that Wells is staying in. He gets a room and decides to wait for Wells. Wells shows up and Chigurh shows him that he's got a shotgun pointed at him.
They go up to Wells' room and talk. Wells tries to offer him money to leave him alone, but Chigurh won't listen. He tells Wells how he killed a man at a bar, and got picked up by the deputy (the incident at the beginning of the book), just to see if he could get out of the situation.
Chigurh asks Wells if he knows where the money is, but Wells says he doesn't. Wells offers to lead him to the money, but Chigurh says he already knows that it's going to be brought to him. Wells tells him to go to hell, because he knows Chigurh is going to kill him. Chigurh does kill him, and then picks up his phone when it starts ringing.
Moss calls Carla's mother in Odessa and tells her to put Carla on the phone. He talks to Carla and asks her if she's ok. She says she isn't, and that the sheriff has come and talked to her. She says that the sheriff has told her that Moss is going to get killed unless he turns himself in, but Moss tells her that's not going to happen.
