(Brought to you by jat impatientreader.com)  Moss puts the poles together and puts some wire hangers in the form of a hook at the end. He manages to hook the bag and bring it out. He gets some money out of it and then puts it back.

In the next scene Chigurh is at the motel where Moss is staying, driving down the rows of rooms. He gets a room and goes in, taking with him the receiver for the transponder and a shotgun with a silencer, along with his airgun. He finds himself in front of one of the rooms; he kicks in the door and finds a man inside. He shoots him, and then shoots another man in the bathroom. He finds Moss' room and searches it, noticing that the airduct has been disturbed. He cleans up in Moss' room, then leaves.

Bell is at his office when Torbert comes in with a sheet of paper. Bell tells Torbert about how he saw cattle being killed in a slaughterhouse, and how he thinks that whoever is out there killing people and looking for Moss has the same tool.

Moss takes a taxi to a town called Eagle Pass. He finds the local hotel and gets a room. Once there he starts going through the money in the briefcase, finally finding the transponder. He goes down to the lobby and bribes the clerk to tell him whenever someone comes in looking for him. The clerk agrees.

After sleeping for a while, something wakes Moss up and he listens at the door for awhile. He goes into the bathroom and starts the shower running, and then comes back out. He listens again and looks underneath the door jamb. He sees that someone is standing directly in front of it. He hides behind the bed as the person comes in. Moss tells him to not turn around. He doesn't, and Moss has him drop the gun and step away from the bathroom door. Moss has his shotgun trained on the man, and tells him to turn around and look at him. Moss takes in his appearance and thinks that he's not what he expected.

He leads him out into the hallway. Moss makes him stay still while he moves towards the stairs, and then makes a break for it. He notes the hotel clerk is dead as he runs out the front door. He feels the shot from a pistol hit the bag he's carrying, and then one grazes his shirt and he starts bleeding. He then feels another shot hit him on his side.

He continues running, but the man seems to be able to track him in the dark, and the shots keep coming. He turns around and manages to get a shot off from the shotgun. A car is going down the street and suddenly stops. Two men get out and start firing at him. Moss shoots at them with his shotgun and starts running again. He reaches another street and hears gunfire behind him. He almost can't keep going, but he tells himself that they are going to be coming after him and proceeds to go to the bridge crossing into Mexico.

He meets up with some college students crossing back into the US and gives them $500 for one of their coats. They reluctantly agree, and he continues across the bridge. He hides the briefcase in some cane and gets to a park inside a small town. He sees an old man cleaning and asks him to help find a doctor.

Chigurh was hit by Moss' shot, and is injured, but he steps into the fray anyway and starts shooting at the men from the car. He manages to kill one and wound another.
