No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy: Pages 61 - 80

(Brought to you by jat impatientreader.com) Part III starts off with the sheriff mentioning that new technology sometimes isn't all it is talked up to be. He then elaborates on how some of the worst people he's encountered will never make it to death row where he's seen executions and heard about the people who've been put to death. Finally, he thinks about law enforcement officers who won't even carry firearms, and how the old time sheriffs really cared for their people.
Moss gets off the bus in Fort Stockton with his wife. They part ways at that point. We then see the sheriff eating dinner when he gets a call from Wendell saying he's received word about a car on fire. Bell brings his wife on the call, and they park behind Wendell's car. They see the vehicle on fire and note that it's probably the vehicle of the man that Chigurh killed in the first part of the book.
In the morning, Bell tells Wendell to get his horse trailer from his house and put both his and his wife's horse in it. He and Wendell take the horses and ride down to the burnt-out car. They then go onward and see Moss' truck. Both Wendell and Bell know who Moss is, and wonder what kind of trouble he's gotten himself into.
They ride down into the canyon and find the dead men near the other trucks. They investigate the crime scene, and talk about what happened. Bell goes to one of the vehicles and finds traces of the heroin inside. They follow the trail of the last man who Moss had found with the money.
Wendell asks Bell if he thinks the man had the money, and Bell says yes. Both of them believe Moss had something to do with what happened. Wendell takes the horses back to Bell's house while Bell goes to pick up Torbert. Bell asks him if the medical examiner has determined what killed Bill Wyrick (the man found in the trunk of the car earlier). Torbert says they still don't know.
In the next scene, Chigurh has found Moss' trailer and goes inside. He finds some old mail and puts some in his pocket, then goes into town.
