Gone, Baby, Gone (Harper Fiction)
Gone Baby Gone by Dennis Lehane: Pages 41 - 60

Go to the beginning
Go to the End

(Brought to you by jat impatientreader.com)  Patrick and Angela go to the Fillmore Tap, a rough bar in Boston. There, they talk with the bartender, Big Dave Strand, about Helene and if she owed money to anyone that came in the bar or knew anyone at the bar. Everyone refuses to give any information, then Dave and the rest of the men in the bar start threatening Angela. Patrick backs them down when he shows Dave he's armed. They ask Dave again about Helene, and he tells them that she wasn't at her friend Dottie's house when Amanda disappeared, but she was at the bar.

The police come to the bar, and Patrick and Angela meet Detective Nick Raftopoulos (Poole) and Detective Remy Broussard. They are the liaisons that Doyle said he was going to assign to them. They ask Patrick and Angela if everything is ok in the bar, and check their guns and permits.

They all go to eat at a diner, where they talk about how much Helene is involved. Poole and Broussard say that Helene is taking advantage of her fifteen minutes of fame. Patrick and Angela tell them that Dave said that she was at the bar rather than at Dottie's. Poole says they are going to go to Lionel's house and question her again. He also tells them that if they want to work together, that there can't be any press leaks of any kind that would compromise the case. Angela says that in return, they have to be let into all aspects of the case, with no holding back of any information. Poole and Broussard agree.

Synopsis of Gone Baby Gone by Dennis Lehane
Pages 61 – 80

Broussard shows them three pictures of people that may be involved in the disappearance of Amanda, but none of them seem to fit the details of the crime. The talk goes back to Ray Likanski, but he's disappeared for now. They all leave the diner, and Angela asks Poole and Broussard what they think has happened. Poole says nothing good can come of it, but Broussard thinks she may be dead already.

In the next scene, Patrick and Angela are at a t-ball game for kids. The league is the same one that Amanda was in, and they hope to find out some information. They find out that Amanda was very non-emotional, and that she did not react to much at all, while their view of Helene as extremely self-absorbed is reinforced.

Later, while Patrick and Angela are having dinner, she has a delayed reaction to what happened at the Fillmore Tap. She tells Patrick that Helene is the same as the men at the bar. He wants to drop the case but Angela is determined to find out what happened to Amanda.

After they get home, Patrick starts thinking about a case before, where the two of them had to find a pair of serial killers. One of them had killed Angie's ex-husband and was about to kill both Angela and Patrick before he was stopped. He hopes that this case isn't going to bring that kind of violence into his and Angela's lives again.

The next morning, tapes with the news coverage of Amanda's disappearance have arrived for Patrick and Angela to review.
