My Copyright Policy: All content is the property of ImpatientReader.com, except where noted. All rights are reserved.

Here are some guidelines for using my content:

  1. If you want to print out my content to use in a nonprofit manner as a study guide for yourself, your classroom, or your book group, that's fine with me.  You can do so without having to ask me.
  2. If you want to use my content as source material for school assignments, that's okay, too. You don't have to ask me.  Find out from your instructor the proper way to attribute authorship to me as a source.  Usually, it's some format like
    1. "Excerpted material ..." copyright 2008
      The Impatient Reader
      http://www.impatientreader.com
      Retrieved from website month/day/year

  3. For all other uses of my content, you need to contact me for permission at snortygmailI do not allow my content to be reproduced in its entirety on anyone's website under any circumstances. If you have a website and would like to reference some of my content (for example, a review I've written of your book), you can do so with a very short excerpt (one or two sentences at most with credit given to ImpatientReader.com) or with a link ONLY (my preference).

An Apology to the 99.9% of you who deplore content-theft as much as I do.  I've had to post this information for the one or two people still out there who believe that everything on the internet is free for the taking. It isn't.  In fact, it constitutes copyright infringement.  Content theft / copyright infringement is a serious legal matter and can always be traced back to the offending website.

An Explanation: I do not allow my content to be copied to anyone's website or blog.  This is because I put a lot effort into my writing and I intend for my content to stay on my website and draw traffic. That's all the compensation I get for my efforts.

You might think if you copy my content to your website and attribute authorship to me, you're not plagiarizing and therefore you're doing nothing wrong.  You might even think that you're helping to publicize my name.  But it's actually content-theft.

Search engines such as Google penalize websites that display the same content, so copying content harms both websites. Most of all, however, copying my content to put on your website means that my content would then be drawing traffic to your website, thus removing my only compensation for writing it in the first place.  No offense, but I'd rather have my content stay on my website and work for me.

An Exception: Look on the Free Stuff index page for things I'm giving away such as up-to-date fiction awards lists and book discussion-group guides.  I'll be updating the free stuff area frequently. You'll know it's free stuff because I'll include the words "free stuff" in the title.
